Choosing a Guild
Choosing guilds is one of the hardest things to do in Neopets. The good thing is that you can quit as soon as you like if you don’t like the guild.A few tips on choosing a guild in a question and reason form:
Is the guild’s Neopet homepage original?
If you notice the guild page to be very plain, example: a few links and a message or two, don’t join it most likely the guild leader isn’t very active and won’t promote the guild.
Does the guild have a least a few of the leader spots filled?
Sometimes this is a good way to tell if the guild is an good. If they don’t have any on the leader spots filled either A: they all quit, or B: the leader hasn’t tried to find any. It is a prime example of if the leader is active. Note: this tip dosn’t apply to new guilds, just ones over a few weeks old.
Is the guild a devoted to a particular subject other than Neopets?
If the subject interest you by all means join it. It will make Neopets much more enjoyable if you can talk to your Neofriends about something besides Neopets and random chat.
Note: It is now against the rules of Neopets to hold contests. -kylie
Does the guild have giveaway or contests with good prizes?
If the guild have stingy prizes like a codestone for the top prize of a banner making contest. Then I would advise against joining, especially if there are only a few members. However, if the prizes are good then by all means join, but not just for the contest.
Note: Also if the guild has GREAT prizes but their numbers are low and the giveaway goes on the lines of... "Weekly 300,000 NPS contest" and there’s only like 60 members it’s probaly a ploy or fake... Remember if its too good to be true it probably isn’t.
I have been corrected by "on ur guide to choosing a guild. I beg to differ with some of your opinions. Our guild isn’t big maybe 15 active members. We have given away: 100K, 50K, 20 dubloon coin, set of codestones and we have a faerie set to give away too. " Some guilds may accually offer all that good stuff if the members that they do have are very active in the guild. What are a 1000 members worth if none of them post compared to 20 members who are all friends.
Are there any messages on their forum?
You can tell by looking at the left hand tool bar and scanning until you see Guild Stats if there are 0 obviously no one’s active in that guild. Plus if they have contests and there aren’t any messages the contest was probably started like 2 months before you visit. Most good guilds only have a couple dozen messages.
Is the guild leader active?
Check up on the guild leader’s Neopets profile to see when the last time they logged in. I know that that can be a bit unaccurate because you can stay logged in for a very long time, but Neopets occasionally, every few months or so, makes you log in again. Oh and neomailing them will never hurt.
Is the guild leader self absorbed?
Chances are if they are they won’t make a very good leader or a Neofriend. You can tell easily by looking at their profile or the guild homepage. The most common terms to look for are "I’m the greatest", "Bow down", "You suck", "I rule".
Is the guild old or new?
If it’s old and has 3 members there obviously is a problem and you should steer clear of them. Check the age of the guild by looking at the "Stats" section of the guild homepage’s navigation.
Does the guild have allies?
With Neopets guilds allies really aren’t needed but imho they look really nice to have.
