Mac's Newbie Guide
By: Mac611Newbies have rights. They can not help it that they only have a few neopoints or that they don not know tons about Neopets. That is the reason I made this article. So Newbies would know about the site, and know that there was a time in everybody's life where they only had 1,000 Neopoints, one pet, very few items, could not get hi-scores for the games and had the Moehog on their user-lookup shield.
I asked a few Newbies some questions about things that are Newbies-related:
#1 Do you think it is unfair that richer Neopians go to the money tree to get items that are for Newbies, not them?
The answer: YES! They thought that people should be able to get at least SOME items. Most people just use it as a junk drop off. If you want to do that, then go to the trading post. Sometimes there are lots to drop junk off at.
#2 Should there be more random events like, "Congratulations, you just found 500 neopoints on the floor!"?
The answer: Two people said yes, but one person said no. She said that people should have to earn neopoints themselves, not find them randomly. I agree with both, if there were more events like that, people wouldn't beg so much. But if there were a lot of those events, people would just visit random pages in hope of getting an awesome random event like that.
#3 Should spaces on wheels not have any spaces that make your pet sick?
This one is a tie. Some said yes, and others said no. I agree with both. Wheels are a risk. You never know if the Wheel of Excitement is going to land on the 10,000 neopoints space, or the pant devil or skull. Almost anything can happen to your pet. They can get sick and you could have your items stolen, but there are good things such as winning a few thousand neopoints or a bottle faerie.
#4 Do you think that the starter paintbrush should be sell-able?
Everyone thought that it should. There are so many people joining Neopets each day that they would probably go for only a few thousand.
Games
If you're having a problem earning neopoints, then this section is for you! I think that by playing games, you will earn a good amount of neopoints. Play the featured game every day even if you are really bad at it and do sponsor games. There are some that are better than others. Cereal ones seem to be the best to earn neopoints. They are fun too. Reese's Puffs and Lucky Charms game are my favorites. Play some yourself and you'll see which one you like the most!
Newbie or N00b
Some users think that Newbies are n00bs. Well, they are not. Newbies are new people to Neopets. They might ask a million questions but that is normal. N00bs will beg for neopoints and paintbrushes. N00bs will also talk like this: omg i n33d a b8by p81intbru39 r8ght n9w! Some Newbies will turn into n00bs, but most will not. If you don't want to turn into a n00b, don't use lots and lots of chatspeak, (an occasional OMG or Lol is fine) don't beg for rare items and be kind to users! Don't go reporting everyone who is saying they wish they had a paintbrush because they are not begging, they are thinking about how cool it would be to have one. So remember, seeing a Newbie does not mean your looking straight at a n00b!
Pets getting Sick and Finding Neopoints for Medicine
It happens to just about everyone. Their pets get sick and they think, "What will I do?" Well, first go to the hospital to see what your pets need. (If they have a 'mild cough' then refresh the quick reference page, and heal your pets) Some medicine is SO EXPENSIVE.(Such as 'Tasty Pie', which is for curing your pet of NeoBlues) If the medicine has a CRAZY price, go to the Healing Springs every 30 minutes until she says that your pets have their health restored. If the medicine is cheap, buy it! Because if you don't heal pets, they can't do certain things like fighting in the Battledome.
Feeding
Your pets need fed. If they don't get fed, their mood may change to 'depressed'. If that happens, your favorite pet can turn BLUE. A really expensive painted pet could even turn blue. If you don't have a lot of neopoints, get some free omelette each day. Omelettes are worth 3 servings of food. Also, play Tombola for a chance to win codestones and bottled faeries, which can be sold for a few thousand. The Tombola man also gives out neopoints and food.
Neopoints
Most people say, "Play some games," if you ask how you can earn neopoints. Well, that is hard if you want to get a lot quickly. So, open a shop! For just 150 neopoints you can open one. Then, if you just joined, get your Newbie Pack by clicking on your items. Put all of those items in your shop. Then price them a few neopoints below the shop wizard's lowest price for that item. After earning some neopoints, upgrade you shop one size. Now, you can play some games with little or no cost and try to get items or neopoints. Also you can go to the healing springs because she does give out bottled faeries and snowballs. Price them again and then upgrade your shop. Keep doing this until you get a shop size you are satisfied with. After a while you will be able to buy all of your items by restocking in the main shops. Remember to check the Trading Post frequently for really cool deals.
Join a Guild!
Joining a guild is a great way to meet other members, get really active on Neopets, and have FUN! Explore through all the guild neighborhoods and find a guild that you think you will like. If you can not find one that you like, make your own! Get a layout from somewhere or if you can do HTML make one yourself. Once you are in a guild you can participate in games, programs, activities, and lots of other fun things that your guild does!
Scams are BAD!
It may seem like everyone in Neopia is nice, but there are lots of bad, evil, mean scammers out there. One that is easy to fall for is a fake login scam. It's where you click on something and it brings you to a login page. Look at the URL (the web address) to see if it's a real one.(www.neopets.com is the only one you should ever enter your info into) If you fall for one, quickly report it and change you password.
Make some New Friends!
If you are over 13 years old or have sent in the parent consent form, you can make Neofriends! Neofriends are other people who you would like to become friends with because they are in your guild, you have the same interests or just because both of you want to become Neofriends! To become their Neofriend, go to that person's user lookup and click on the happy face at the bottom of the page. Sometimes people won't accept your request to become their Neofriend. Just get to know them more then by neomailing each other and then maybe try again. It's a great way to get started on Neopets because then if you need any help, you have someone to ask!
Now you have learned some tips to get started on Neopets. Opening a shop, playing games, joining a guild and more. Are you more prepared now to having an account on Neopets?
The End
Need more help? Neomail me or ask around on the help board! There are plenty of people there who are willing to help you.
