Shopkeeping Tips

For most Neopians your shop is you main source of income, followed by games of course. Well here are a few tips to selling your stuff in a shop.

  • ALWAYS make sure your the lowest on the Shopwizard even if your only a few NP below the other people. Oh and make sure you seach around until you find the shopwizard list you’ll be on. It’s very easy to figure out... just search until you see a username that starts with the same letter as you. Please note that each list contains the usernames for more than one letter; for example, if your username starts with S you’ll be listed with the S’s, K’s, and C’s.
  • Don’t put animated backgrounds, or anything animated or music on your shop. They make it take ages to load, and some people might leave before it’s finished, or it might crash their computer, believe me its happened to me a couple times.
  • Don’t put too many dolls, pictures, or picture links on your shop. These also make your show load very slowly.
  • Don’t bother expanding your shop to be shown in the marketplace. First of all it’ll take millions upon millions of NP to get big enough. Plus I doubt you’ll EVER need that much space. Also remember the people who own the biggest shops in Neopia have been playing for YEARS.
  • Keep your galleries and shops seperate if you can. It can become very hard to find the items if they’re mixed in with a bunch of unbuyable stuff.
  • Don’t send thank-you messages. Some people may think they’re annyoying.
  • Advertise sales on message boards.
  • Try buying your stuff on the main shops, if you have DSL or Broadband. If you don’t your forced to buy from other shops and mark the prices up on your shop... make sure the shop your buying from is at least 10% less that what you plan on selling it for.
  • Don’t advertise your shop with Neomails, most people will think your a scammer and report you.
  • If you can’t sell your items on your shop then try putting them on auctions or in the trading post.
  • Always make sure you make a profit NEVER sell anything for less than 1/2 of what you bought it for... just put it in your SDB and wait until the price goes up... it may take months.
  • Remember that one of the most valuable items to sell is scratchcards. The minimum return value on any given scratchard (especially those bought in the Lost Desert) is at least 200-300 NP. Also remember that the higher-up scratchards will cost well over 1000NP, whereas you paid only 400 for them. That is a 125% return rate! Furthermore, scratchards go like crazy because there are plenty people out there who are willing to spend twice the price of a scratchard, just to be able to scratch more than one every four hours. Time = money, and vice versa. Therefore, stock up on scratchards, and make sure to keep prices in the competitions's range. Eventually someone will buy them! (Thanks, Lo!)
  • Haggling in the main shops .. If they are selling an item for 5,524 NP, once you get to the screen where you type in the amount of neopoints, instead of typing in 5,524, put in 5,500. In most cases it will go through and you saved 24 NP. You can try lower prices as well. (Thanks, Ryan),/li>
