We received a comment regarding the Newbie Guide and it had some validity to it. It sounded harsh toward the Neopet players who have been around for a while. REFRESHING (F5) RULE - DIRECT FROM TNT-Issue: 219 | 9th day of Celebrating, Y7:
Some people say that you can get frozen from refreshing to much. For example some avatars people say you can only get from refreshing and they say that you can get frozen from refreshing to much. Is that true? ~ (name deleted)

Just like many things in Neopets and life, there is a line. Let's clarify.

- Hitting refresh repeatedly for a few minutes, allowing the page to load. – Great

- Holding down F5 for 10-30 seconds at a time, checking for the avatar/challenger, then trying again if it has not been achieved – Still good.

- Holding down the F5 key for 20 minutes – Okay, but try to take a break for your mental sake and ours.

- Leaving your CAT on the F5 key while you make a sandwich. – Not good.

- Leaving your CAT on the F5 key all night while you sleep – Bad.

- Using a program that refreshes for you at the same rate as a human – Frozen!

- Using Opera to open 100+ pages and hitting REFRESH ALL – VERY frozen.

Basically, anything that plays the site for you, and requires no effort on your part, is considered a BOT and will get you frozen. Even your CAT. This includes auto refresher functions in browsers, or putting a weight on F5 to do things the old fashioned way. If you don't do any of that, you don't have to worry.

    Random Events
  • Advent Calendar even if it's not season. If you keep refreshing you will get a winter random event. Can take 1-30 minutes average time (Quicker with faster Internet services) (Thanks, Soorelen) Martha and iesjuh1988 reports that they have found Christmas PBs among other goodies this way. Kiera says: This is also a good way to get an icy negg!
  • Cliffhanger (Answer Sheet) Keep playing till you get a winter random event. 2-3 games normal (Difficulty level does not matter) (Thanks, Soorelen)
  • Sultan's Quest (Thanks, Monsta)
  • Town Hall If you keep refreshing you will get a random event. (Thanks, Christal)
    Timed
  • Deadly Dice: it's open only from 12am-1am. (LurkingTiger says that if you roll the dice on the ODD second, you'll win. EVEN second will lose)
  • Guess the Marrow (Thanks Genia)
  • Snowager Go at 6-7 AM, 2-3 PM, and 10-11 PM, All times are in NST, aka PST. Btw that translates into 9:00 AM, 5:00 PM and 1:00 AM EST
  • The Turmaculus : It will randomly strengthen your Neopet's petpet or give you items. If you want the avatar, attach a petpet that is cheap and one you can afford to lose. Use one of the "unfriendly" methods like hitting him with a stick and Turmy will eat your petpet. This should give you the avatar. After that, use only friendly methods of waking him up.   • I dont get it...I cant find anything when going to the sites for the bobble heads..are you supposed to refresh till it appears or what? hmmm...what am I doing wrong?

  • To Wingo35 - Your map pieces remain in the lab. Once you put them there, you can't get them back. You can use the lab every day to zap one of your pets. It varies from day to day as to what will happen to your pet. They could change color, species, gain or lose stats - its all random and unpredictable. But once you place your map pieces in the lab, its there for good. Happy Zapping!!!!!!

  • i was informed that if you buy a large sum of one item to increase it's neopoint cost it is considered cheating and can be froze for the offense, has anyone else heard of such thing?

  • i see people with large ammounts of codestones / faeries and other common yet rares items all the time so keep the level of neopoints at a regular. is this rule if you hoard items only? seems like a complexed situation . was wondering if anyone had a clue or a link to a rule that could clairify what is considered illegal in this sense

  • Hey there Lvlr_l3ubbles - It's mentioned in the T&C that no one is allowed to "corner the market". I found this editorial: Issue: 315 Quite often in your Editorials and rules, you have said that it is against the rules for a group of people to get together and purposely inflate items to corner a market. You state that it is okay if only one person does this by themselves, but it seems that nowadays the name of the game is "get with the group and buy up all of an item." How are people being allowed to corner markets like this when it has been stated that group inflation is against the rules? ~kalis_coraven If you strongly believe certain players are grouping to inflate items, please, by all means, send in a detailed report about their shenanigans. Such things are very subtle, and we rely on you honest players to give us a heads up when you think your misbehaving Neo-peers are up to no good. Also, to reiterate a past Editorial, yes, one person can buy up all the items they want. However, if they make them unbuyable and suddenly the price jumps from 99k to, say, 600k and start getting offered on expensive items, then it's considered scamming.**************Also ***********Issue: 292 If someone, say... buys up a lot of books with a rarity of 99 and then puts them on the Trading Post for really cheap, but never accepts an offer for them and then goes and buys up all the other ones that deflated because of their low price and THEN (after they've bought them all for cheap) raises the price, is this freezable? Seems like it should be to me. ~mandakitty12 We discussed this and agreed this type of deceitful trading is indeed freezable. Collecting items on your own so that the price increases is one thing. Intentionally lying about the price to trick others into thinking market value for an item is lower than it is is another. That's called scamming.   • In order to maintain a profitable shop, one must buy 5 or 10 of the lowest priced of an item, and bring the price up to make it worthwhile, so there needs to be some ability in the rules to do this. That being said, why would you put 40 or 50 or 100 of the same item in a shop? It is expensive to expand your shop to hold that many items. Very few items sell that fast. (My next expansion to add five items is over 10,000 points.) If I were pricing an item, I would always price it below a big lot or hold it in my safe deposit box til the price comes up. It is risky buying a lot of one item -- I have two or three items that I am stuck with a bunch of, but I have also made plenty of neopoints, buying 20 or 30 or 40 from someone who bought too many, and I sell them slowly over time. One of my favorite parts of neopets is the shop. It's kind of like the stock market with bigger and faster swings in value.

But, i think to add to your comment, the shop can be there both ways, I always price everything i buy or in multiples at a very low rate. Even when i started, Got the quick money, most of the time everything you get was "free" or by going to a free area and keeping a regulated cost on things brings people back. But

  • I check all the shops and I buy up cheaper than usual items. Sometimes people misprice them - like codestones and I will get them at seriously rock bottom prices. Some people have 1 np shops and everything is priced like that. But to corner the market like some of these groups do and make the item inflate in price just to make nps for themselves is wrong. It makes it hard for the players who don't have a lot of nps to buy things. But to corner the market so that everyone has to pay the piper isn't fair. But buying them cheaper than most and marking up ur price to a reasonable fair market value is good and u still make nps. I do the same thing u do Skater. I store some of my things until the price comes up. There used to be a section of Neopets that had all the inflation and deflation values of the items but I can't seem to find it any more. It was under the old version. Wish they still had it.

  • Items can be priced in a number of ways. I bought forty of an item just today. When I do that, I will try to sell them lower than anyone else until they are gone. Anything that is worth more than 5,000 neopoints, I also try to price lower than anyone else. The trick to make neopoints, if that is your goal, is to get an item for as low as you can and sell it for as much as you can. Remember though, price it too high, and no one will buy. This is also how it happens in the real world.

  • CoDee I bought some items with neocash a couple of months ago and when I logged in the next day I had 4 of everything I bought. I checked the neomails they send after a purchase and it showed that the additional items were puchased a few minutes after my initial purchase, but I was online playing games and those items were not in my inventory when I logged out. I contacted them and they fixed the glitch for me. I would contact them and see if they can find out what happened to you.

I never thought of checking my mail... *ditzy look* and there were two emails... both saying I had NC that expired on 2009-06-10. and they have given some items in exchange for the expired Neocash. That was nice of them... I never knew NC expired. *s* Glad I am not crazy.... LOL.. I KNEW I didn't buy any thing and that I had more NC. thanks again!

  • I'm feeling good! Just made about 50,000 on the Neo-stock market. Here's what I do: I buy stocks priced 15-19 and hold them until they double in price, then sell them. It's easy to do, but be patient. Some stocks will drop in price. Some I have been holding for months. However, I have one stock up 7 points a share already today. I have seen some stocks gain 10 in a day. Remember, just like I said above with the shop, buy low, sell high. Have a great weekend!

  • minnie, the same thing happened to me all you have to do is either go to the Status page and if that doesn't work follow these instructions. 1. find out the pet you had fight (the one that u didn't finish and exited the page) 2. make it active as in if you go to the healing spring and it says "15 hp to (blank) 3. Go to healing springs and see if it worked

  • I founnd out bobblehead fred is in haunted woods, whoopy cushner is in faerieland and leaky louie is in mystery island. You mite have to refresh a few times, and I got a Meowclops Bobblehead as a "rare" item but I didn't get any neopoints.

  • jdangel: there is no major trick to test your strength ,.. it's random like any other cumulative prize game, such as scrath cards cumulative meaning there is a progressive neopets pot. the neopoints progress as time goes by,. also you do not have to press the button to get ur prize, if you go to ur inventory, ur prize will be there before you press the button. BUT it has the highest ratio for payback, last year i got 7 halloween paint brushes ,.. that, and shorchy slots i stress on everyone to play as much as they can.

  • SCAM ALERT...The latest Cookie Grabber scam has been detected. This one affects user shops. If you are out to snipe a cheap codestone, beware. This scam tricks the shop wizard into seeing the false sale of an item being sold for 1np. If you visit the shop, your information will be stolen by the cookie grabber. So if you see any suspiciously cheap items stocking in shops, avoid restocking them. If you think you have visited an infected shop you need to change your passwords. Scams and cookie grabbers can easily be stopped by updating your browser to the latest version of Firefox and using the NoScript addon.   • HAS ANYONE NOTICED A NOTE LEFT BY A MEEPIT???!I was playing imperial exam when i noticed a note hung on the entrance behind the grarrl guard. The note said "a meepit was here" it flew off and then wind blew the note off the game screen. Has anyone heard of this? I am totally puzzled.

Hard to believe, because it would be difficult to set up. If you think you've been scammed, the first step is to change your password! Syd, if you are on auctions and you're new to it: look for auctions 21-40, pick an item and search the price on the shop wizard, then decide if you want to bid. There is no sense bidding on something with an hour left. A lot of bidding happens in the last few minutes. Also try auctioning off a few items, if you've bought something cheap.   • Kim, it would make most sense, that this problem is occurring when you click on an item in the description of the shop, where the picture of the item and price is made to look like a real item. It does not seem likely that this would happen when buying a legitimate item. Otherwise, I would think neopets would warn us or patch the bug quickly.

  • The cookie grabber scam dates back to as far as 2004. Apparently, it was only used for Neopets and was found to be a fake scam (at least it was in 2004). I googled cookie grabber and tried to find it's origin but I kept coming up with articles on third party neopet fan sites and it's listed in the "urban dictionary" (which is a dictionary of definitions the person creates and not specifically the true meaning). I wrote to TNT to inquire about this scam and have not heard back from them yet. I also searched previous editorials and I didn't find anything on it. I'm sure that if this were, indeed, a problem, TNT would be aware of it and would have taken matters into their own hands to correct the problem. If and when I hear back from TNT, I will post their response. I'm not sure if there is any validity to this cookie grabber scam but either way, we all have to be careful. Make sure your password is changed on a regular basis, don't use a password someone can guess. Make it a strong password using letters and number. Don't give out your password to anyone and don't advertise any personal information on Neopets or any third party site. Everyone is responsible for their own account so if you give your log in information to someone to collect your dailies when you can't, you run the risk of missig items and/or nps. We should all treat this scam as something real until we find out for sure of it's status. I will keep ya'll posted if I find out anything. BE CAREFUL

  • I did a snow faerie quest today and I spent 10000np for her items. She gave me in return ( a dozen neggs) and 1600np and of course a snow ball. What a pleasant surprise, I usually lose nps with her quest
